A massive rootball in the Alaskan Tongass National Forest shows how huge the trees are. The ground is spring-y here from the centuries of decomposed flora underfoot.

The crisp air and the morning sun on Lake McDonald made it worth getting up early. We took an extended vacation and spent a week at Glacier National Park in August of 2008. Stunning views were around every corner.
