Chicago Eats: Pizza, Hot Dogs, and Italian Beef

Chicago

As always, for me travel plans mean eating plans. Being my third trip to Chicago, I know I want those special items not available elsewhere.

Portillos is the go to place for Chicago Hot Dogs and Italian Beef Sandwiches. I have to remember to go hungry, After eating here, I can’t eat the rest of the day.

Giordano's Thin Crust Pizza

Preparing for pizza is mandatory as well. The guys at the train station (last time we arrived in Chicago by train) sent us to Giordano’s and we didn’t regret it one bit.

I’ve been gathering other ideas, but BlogHer usually feeds us so well that I don’t get out much during the conference. But who knows, maybe I’ll have some more finds.

Simple Recipe: Squash blossom quesadillas

Squash Blossom Quesadillas

Squash blossoms have been a surprise hit with us this summer. I’ve made them stuffed with goat cheese and sautéd as a side dish. But this has been by far the easiest, tastiest treatment. Just spread goat cheese on tortillas, fan out the squash blossoms, sprinkle some cheddar and jack then top it all with another tortilla. I just put them in a pan to melt the cheeses together and they were perfect. Grilling would probably work wonderfully.

4th of July – U.S.A. Flag and other Printables

4th printables

I made some red-white-and-blue flag-things for fun. You could put them in cupcakes, or as bookmarks or whatever.

Download the pdf and print on card stock. Cut, fold, glue. Easy peasy.

Here are some other fun things people have made:

At Somewhat Simple – Two super simple and adorably patriotic milk carton-style treat boxes!

At Tatertots & Jello – Patriotic Medallion Party Printables for parties or decor.

The two above are part of a blog hop so you find lots more inspiration there.

Enjoy!
